Battery recycler registration is tightening, and the paperwork is the moat

Lithium-ion recovery has been discussed almost entirely as a technology question: which process, what recovery rate, which metals. The operators running into trouble this year are not failing on any of that. They are failing on paperwork.

Registration and traceability requirements are tightening, and the practical effect is that documentation capability, not processing capability, is becoming the barrier to entry.

What is actually changing

The requirement set is moving from "be registered" toward "be able to evidence, per batch, where the material came from and what happened to it". Chain of custody, cell chemistry, quantities in and out, downstream disposition.
